How much does an average headstone cost?

It depends on the style of memorial – an average price would be between $2,000 and $4,000 for standard memorials, most of which come as a complete package (includes standard artwork, 200 x letters for the inscription, portrait photo and installation within the Auckland, or Tauranga Metropolitan area included). Costs vary for custom made memorials.

Where does the stone come from and is it authentic?

Our memorials are made from real granite. The granite comes from countries as diverse as Norway, South Africa, India and China. We import the granite from reputable companies we have long term trading relationships with ensuring that our clients get the best quality possible. Memorials can also be made from marble and we also offer Bronze Plaques.

How long does it take to make and install a headstone?

You should allow a minimum of 6-8 weeks for standard memorials, however, custom made memorials will take longer to manufacture.

Can we collect the headstone and install it ourselves?

Most council run cemeteries only allow approved contractors to install memorials. Memorials in Urupas can be installed by the family – we provide easy to follow installation instructions for this purpose and are always available to assist with any questions the family may have.

What are your payment terms? Do you offer hire purchase / layby?

We do offer you the option to make periodic payments towards your memorial, however, the amount/s paid are at your discretion. We don’t offer ‘hire purchase’ or ‘layby’. How long does the paint on the inscription last?

This is dependent on the type of memorial, where it is situated, the direction it faces, and whether it is regularly cleaned. Weather conditions also have an effect on the paint. If the memorial is cleaned regularly, the paint will last 8-10 years. We offer a service to repaint the inscription at minimal cost to you.

How do we clean it?

Chemical cleaners shouldn’t be used – warm soapy water is sufficient, but make sure you rinse the soap off with clean water, using a soft cloth to dry the stone.

How long do the photos last?

The photos that we place on memorials are ceramic, and made in Italy. We guarantee our portraits for colour fastness for 25 years. It is important to remember that bright reds and purples are difficult to replicate on photo ceramics due to the kiln firing process.

How is a second inscription added?

Depending upon the style of memorial, we will either remove the stone from the cemetery and bring it back to the factory for addition of the second inscription, or complete the work on site. We will also freshen up the original inscription, so that the inscription looks uniform.

Is there anything we CAN’T write on our memorial?

YES – there are strict guidelines set by Councils in this regard. Swear words, blasphemy, and derogatory phrases are not allowed. We will let you know if there is anything in your inscription that may not be permitted. Some insignias and images are also not allowed.
